Josh Holmes, executive producer of 343 Industries, recently spoke out on Halo Waypoint explaining the reason behind the decision as to why split-screen co-op was taken out of Halo 5: Guardians.
“The decision to remove split-screen support from Halo 5: Guardians was one of the most difficult ones we’ve ever had to make as a studio,” he said. “We know that for many of our fans, Halo has meant playing together with friends in the same room. We all have great memories of past Halo split-screen multiplayer matches.”
“To move Halo’s gameplay forward and deliver a true next-gen experience, tough choices had to be made,” Holmes added. “Our decision was driven by a desire for scale, fidelity, and focus to ensure that we would deliver the best quality experience possible.”
“Many of our ambitious goals for Halo 5 would be compromised in a split-screen setting and the time spent optimizing and addressing split-screen-specific issues would take focus from building other parts of the game. Game development is a balancing act of resources, time, and technology, and in this case we made the tough decision to sacrifice something that’s been near and dear to us all.”
In the comment section below, tell us your thoughts about the statement above. Was taking out split-screen co-op a good decision? Or is 343 Industries making a mistake?
And as always, be sure to stick with Halo Headquarters for the latest Halo news and more!

‘deliver a true next-gen experience’ Yes. Because removing features makes things next gen.
“Our decision was driven by a desire for scale, fidelity, and focus to ensure that we would deliver the best quality experience possible.” No 343i, it was driven by you wanting more people to buy separate games so it increases your sales ultimately making you more money.
“Many of our ambitious goals for Halo 5 would be compromised in a split-screen setting and the time spent optimizing and addressing split-screen-specific issues would take focus from building other parts of the game.” Split screen is basics. You have a big team yet you can’t implement simple features in which people would need? 343i is retarded by this point.
“Game development is a balancing act of resources, time, and technology, and in this case we made the tough decision to sacrifice something that’s been near and dear to us all.” Well then 343i I suggest you stop wasting your time putting in pointless gamemodes and maps that nobody plays.
343i are money whores.

Removing splitscreen from Halo is a HUGE mistake. Splitscreen is flesh with multiplayer. It often makes multiplayer even better. It is one of the biggest pieces of multiplayer. Removing splitscreen from multiplayer is like killing Master Chief in the story. Its financial suicide. Please, think about your mistake. Even if you include as a patch later after release, it NEEDS tp be in multiplayer.
