Game Informer has recently got a hands on look at the Halo 5 Guardians campaign. As we all know, Master Chief is now fighting alongside Blue Team which players can take on in single player as well as in four-player co-op. In single player, Blue Team interfaces, takes orders, and such from the Master Chief. In co-op, players take on a specific member of Blue Team, each having their very own loadout distinctive to whatever their strong suit may be.
The individuals at Game Informer were lucky enough to play an early mission which was set before Master Chief and Blue Team are declared AWOL by the very military that created them. While on the other side of the campaign, we follow Spartan Locke, as he tracks down Master Chief to either take him in or bring him down. Locke then goes on to recruit his own team, Fireteam Osiris, to help do the job. This mix of familiar and new faces rounds out the team of high-tech Spartan-IVs, who all come from elite military backgrounds.
Their lengthy hands-on sessions also included plenty of time in the upgraded competitive Arena multiplayer. In the cover story, they break down specific changes to the Empire map from the multiplayer beta and debut a map called Fathom; which has never been seen before. Game Informer describes the map Fathom as “gorgeous” and “is loaded with all kinds of hidden tricks for experienced players to dig in and discover.” And furthermore, a new multiplayer gametype never before seen in a Halo game is also teased by 343 Industries.
